IyeRoot, a dynamic Black queer band hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, emerged in March 2024 under the visionary leadership of Nevada 'Vada Nesta' Staples. Originally a trio featuring Chae's rhythmic cajón, Jess's soulful guitar, and Vada Nesta's commanding vocals, the band has expanded to a powerful sextet. Today, IyeRoot welcomes the harmonious additions of Breonna 'Amaris' Lee and Chris Hendrix on background vocals, and the melodic mastery of Lando Sparks on keys. IyeRoot delivers a captivating fusion of genres. Their sound, a rich tapestry of rap, R&B, reggae, rock, and classic influences, is as diverse as their members. The name "IyeRoot" is a profound reflection of the band's ethos: "Iye" encompassing the all-seeing eye, the Egyptian Eye of Ra, the Rastafarian concept of "I and I," and the personal "I" of self-affirmation; "Root" representing the grounding anchor, the source of growth, and the ancestral lineage that flows through their veins.
