Greensboro's own Váda Nesta, the enigmatic leader and creative heart of IyeRoot, carries a rich musical history that began in Danville, VA, where she grew up singing in three church choirs. Notably, she was a Shiloh Baptist Church Mass Choir member, which released the impactful 2001 album "God is Worthy." This formative period was filled with extensive travel, performances at Gospel Fests, and visits to other churches, instilling in her a deep appreciation for the power of music and performance. Along with her vocal talents, she also played upright bass for 3 years in middle school orchestra, and now plays bass for IyeRoot. This highlights her diverse musical ability. Her upbringing was also shaped by her mother, a dedicated Pennsylvania County Educator. Now, Váda seamlessly blends this gospel foundation with R&B, soul, rock, and rap, creating a timeless and cutting-edge sound. Her lyrics, rich with clever entendres and thought-provoking messages, reflect influences from Bob Marley to Tobe Nwigwe. Váda's performance experience, including appearances at the 2024 LGBT Cookout and collaborations with SunQueen Kelcey and the SoularFlares, showcases her versatility and talent. Backed by a strong academic foundation in Concert Sound and Lighting and Music Management, she approaches music with a raw and authentic energy, describing it as "Wild, Untamed and Unpolished." Central to Váda Nesta's artistic vision is the powerful declaration, "Black woman is God," reflecting her dedication to uplifting Black women and driving social change. Through her music and presence, Váda Nesta strives to inspire the next generation of revolutionaries, spreading joy, light, and a transformative spirit wherever she goes.
